I live in Dandong, which is a small city. It is somewhat famous because the eastern part of the Great Wall ends there. It is also only about 2000 feet away from North Korea. (The funny thing is that even though I lived so close to North Korea, I have never been there!) The river between China and North Korea is called the Yalu River, and people from my town love swimming in the river all year round. In addition, there are lots of sea foods, too. People who live close to our city would drive there in autumn with their families just to try the whitebait, crab and Mantis shrimp. Other than the river, there are also mountains, waterfalls, and some other cool places.
Canton is a capital city of Guangdong province. It is a busy place, kind of like a New York City in China. If you go there, you should visit Canton Tower. This is the second tallest structure in China right now and you can get a beautiful view of Canton from the top of this tower. People in Canton like to drink tea in the morning, and we always have soup for dinner. Unlike Americans, the Cantonese usually go to do karaoke on the weekends.
Shanghai is the largest commercial and financial center in China. After living in the city for so many years, all the fancy things that other tourists like is not what I like the most. Unveil the sleek facade of Shanghai, you will see small narrow streets with a lot of three-wheeled bikes.People all lived so close to each other that you could say hi to the people next door through the windows on the balcony. In my childhood memories, there is always a smell of food among the streets and people all liked to be together. If someone cooked some food, they would share it with everyone.Shanghai has changed a lot over these years. The government built a lot of buildings instead of the small house we used to have. But even though now most people in Shanghai live in fancy apartments, the buildings and streets are way nicer than they were ten years ago. I still remember the smell of the food and miss it.
I was born in a small city, it is not as big as Beijing or Shanghai, but it is not a town with only thousand people. I say it is small because you can drive from the west to the east in approximately two hours. My hometown is described very pretty and natural, but that is the description of the landscape near my hometown, but it is not a description of the place where most people dwell.
